Edna Helen Meyer

Edna Helen Meyer, 93, of Girard, died at 1:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, in Westridge Retirement Community in Girard.

Edna was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of Paul and Christina (Hort) Honer. As an infant, Edna was Baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Alva. She grew up and attended schools in Alva and received her degree in Home Economics from Oklahoma State University.

Edna married Eldor William Meyer on June 1, 1952, in Alva. Eldor preceded her in death on June 16, 2010.

They farmed near Girard before Eldor entered the Ministry. They served numerous congregations before Eldor was elected president of the Nebraska District. During their years in the Ministry, they made many lifelong friends before retiring to Girard in 1993.

Edna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Girard Garden Club, and the Girard Medical Center Auxiliary.

Edna enjoyed her family and her church.

Survivors include her son, W. Stan Meyer, and his wife, Stephanie, of Scottsdale, Arizona; her daughters, Dorene Niederklein and her husband, Roy, of Girard, Marilyn Yost and her husband, Dr. Jay, of Girard, and Delois Laverentz and her husband, David, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with another one due in December; her brothers-in-law Delbert Meyer and his wife, Linda, of Sacramento, California, and Raymond Meyer and his wife, Phoebe, of Winchester, Virginia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brothers, Paul Honer and Dean Honer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, with Pastor Jerry Hemmingson officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard, where friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday. Friends may call at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
