PITTSBURG, Kan. — The investigation into the homicide of Justin E. Krogen, 36, outside a Pittsburg bar is still ongoing. Investigators are currently seeking to locate a person of interest from this investigation, but the identity of that person is not being revealed at this time.
Law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, along with first responder units from Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, were dispatched to 202 N. Locust St., in Pittsburg, in reference to a report of a shooting incident at approximately 1:15 a.m. the morning of Sunday, Aug. 20.
Upon arrival, units found Krogen, who had been shot outside of a local bar and subsequently died from his injuries. Krogen's body was sent to Kansas City for an autopsy.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting and the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, stemming from an argument.
PPD on the evening of Aug. 20 posted several pictures on their Facebook page, requesting assistance from the public in identifying the individuals photographed. Major Ben Henderson confirmed that the people in the photos were possible witnesses to the crime and that investigators needed to interview them.
On Aug. 21, PPD thanked the public for assisting them via their Facebook page and stated that no further assistance was needed in identifying the individuals.
Krogen was born in Pittsburg and grew up in Weir, where he attended USD 247 schools. He was described by those who knew him as someone who lived life to its fullest and was always willing to help a friend in need. He had two children.
Krogen was an avid canoer and Morel hunter. Throughout his life, he held a variety of jobs, including one that allowed him to travel the United States maintaining and painting water towers. He also had his own power washing business.
