Richard W. Coonrod, 87, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away September 25, 2023, after a battle with dementia.
He is survived by three children, Keith Coonrod (Kathy) of McCune, KS, Dale Coonrod (Dara) St. Paul, KS, Michele Verren (Jaime) of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Wes Coonrod (Honey) of Parsons, KS, Clint Parsons (Ashley) of Pittsburg, KS, Tiffany Darling (Chris) of St. Paul, KS and Tracy Rhodes (Ryan) of St. Paul, KS; several great-grandchildren and one sister, Marilyn Coonrod Flagg (Larry) of Ft. Scott, KS.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Vera Hale Coonrod and his loving wife, Virginia M. Morris Coonrod.
Richard and his wife lived most of their lives in Crawford County and was a graduate of the Arcadia High School. He worked for Mackie Clemens Coal Company, as well as the P&M Coal Company on Big Brutus. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America, the National Rifle Association, and the Masonic Lodge #93.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date at the Large/Pleasant View Cemetery in Bourbon County, Kansas, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Virginia.
