Ronald L Tims, 77, of Arma, passed away on November 29, 2023, in Joplin, MO, surrounded by loved ones.
Ronnie was born on November 4, 1946, to Edward and Barbara (Williams) Tims in Pittsburg, KS. He attended Pittsburg schools graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1964.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ann (Lepoglow) Tims on April 8, 1967. They started married life in Wichita, where Ronnie worked for Boeing. They returned to Southeast Kansas when he took a job with the Kansas City Southern. Upon returning home, Ronnie and Mary Ann made their home in Arma. He retired from the KCS in 1998.
Ronnie loved his community. He organized neighborhood gatherings, loved visiting with friends, and volunteered for school and community events, especially those that involved his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and was a knight in King Utten Tutten Putten Tutten’s Army, at least that’s what he told his kids and grandkids. Ronnie was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, known for his quick wit, crude humor, and colorful limericks. He was a great storyteller, especially around the fire at the Friday night meetings of the Bone Creek Boyz, where he was designated head chef and earned the nickname “Hop Sing.”
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann; their two daughters, Mitzi Cronister and Jessica (Jon) Seeliger; four grandchildren, MacKenzi (Matt) Tims-McCullough, Zachary Cronister, Harper Seeliger, and Holden Seeliger; and two sisters Susie Tims and Babs Tims.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Carlton Edward Tims.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4th. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3rd at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. The family requests memorial donations be made to Dream Big Little One Association, Southeast Kansas Animal Advocates, or The Miners Hall Museum.
