Thomas (Tad) A. Dunham, 74, of Overland Park, KS, formally of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Sunrise Senior Living Center in Leawood, KS, following an illness.
Tad was born April 12, 1949, in Columbia, MO, the son of Richard E. and Thomasine S. (Allison) Dunham. Tad graduated high school in San Antonio, TX, and earned a degree in History at the University of Texas in Arlington, TX. He later earned a second degree at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, in Agriculture Economics/Accounting. Tad worked in banking most of his life. He began his career working for Farm Credit while living in Udall, KS. Later he moved to Pittsburg, KS, and worked for Gold Bank and University Bank as President.
On March 29, 1975, Tad married Denise G. Casey in Gainesville, TX; she survives at the home.
Tad was of the Methodist Faith. In his formidable years, Tad spent many happy times at his grandparents’ ranch in Gainesville, TX. He was a 4-H leader and enjoyed the County Fair while living in Udall, KS. Tad raised and trained border collies and enjoyed taking care of his sheep and cattle. For his children and grandchildren, he was self-proclaimed “the world’s greatest hitting coach” in baseball. After retiring, he went on trail rides on horseback with his wife all over the country. Playing the guitar and writing songs with his brother became a favorite activity. Tad loved to live life to its fullest. Most of all, Tad loved his kids and grandkids and supported them in all of their endeavors.
Survivors include his wife; children Brian Dunham of Amarillo, TX, Brandon Dunham and wife Misty of Borger, TX, and Travis Dunham and wife Ashley of Overland Park, KS; sister Laura Kelsoe and husband Robert of Dallas, TX; brothers Richard Dunham and wife Sherri of Argyle, TX, and George Dunham and wife Kelly of Argyle, TX; grandchildren Shylah Shopeese, Stormy Shopteese, Kadin Dunham, Nolan Dunham, and Elise Dunham.
Tad was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy Wonderlich.
Celebration of Life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to JDRF (type 1 diabetes association).
