Mildred S. Ludlum, 83, of Erie, died at 2:50 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2023 at Guest Home Estates in Erie.
She was born January 14, 1940, at Erie, to John R. and Murle (Beech) Eggen. She grew up in the Walnut area and graduated from Walnut High School in 1958.
On July 31, 1959 she and Charles L. Ludlum were married at the Baptist Church in Walnut. They farmed near Walnut until moving to a farm near Erie in 1987. Charles preceded her in death on May 2, 2015.
Mildred was a member of the Erie Federated Church, its Project Committee and Love Committee, and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at the Erie Thrift Store on Wednesday mornings. Her hobbies included sewing and quilting, bowling, gardening, canning, playing cards and visiting casinos. For years, she hosted Sunday family dinners that included roast, mashed potatoes, homemade noodles and pies, and a heated game of Canasta.
Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Dyson (Jim) of Erie, Connie Little (Ken) of Girard, and Charlotte Umbarger (Todd) of Thayer; grandchildren, Bryan Dyson (Stephanie) and their children Olivia, Claire, and Andrew, Sara Klover (Cory) and their children Kennedy, Rylee, Hudson and Morgan of Green Bay, WI, Craig Little (Lisa) and their children Layla, Landry, and Linley of Girard, Brett Little (Danielle) and their children Emma, Everett and Berkelee of Girard, Jessica Vinardi (Brad) and their children Jack and Kate of Arma, Matthew Westhoff (Jess) and their children Charlie and Addie of Sublette, Mitchell LaRue (Lindsey Robertson) and their expected child of Erie, Andrea Troester(Jeremy) of Thayer; a sister, Nancy Ward (Arnie) of St. Paul and brothers Dale Eggen (Sharon) of Arkansas City and Keith Eggen (Lorraine) of Topeka.
Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and three brothers, Jack, Kenny, and Dean Eggen.
The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, at the Erie Federated Church, with Pastor Shella Choi officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery north of Erie.
The family will receive friends at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday (Thanksgiving evening).
