Ruby A. Westhoff

Ruby A. Westhoff, 84, of rural Walnut, Kansas, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

Ruby Agnes Bergmann was born June 7, 1938 in rural St. Paul, Kansas the daughter of John and Agnes Elizabeth (Redinger) Bergmann. She grew up in the St. Paul area attending the Idell Grade School and St. Paul High School where she graduated in 1956. 

On March 3, 1962, Ruby was united in marriage to David L. Westhoff at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. Following their marriage, they made their home in rural Walnut, Kansas, where they farmed and raised their family. Her husband, David, passed away just a few months before their 60th anniversary.

She enjoyed all aspects of making their home, especially sewing and quilting, gardening and canning, and cooking and baking. For many years, Ruby and David attended the St. Patrick Catholic Church at Walnut, and she was currently a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Erie and its Altar Society.

Survivors include one son, Philip Westhoff of Walnut, Kansas, four daughters, Anna Goble (David) of rural Girard, Kansas, Eileen Bland (Rick) of Girard, Connie Westhoff (Joe) of Olathe, Kansas, and Donna Rodriguez (Ernesto) of Lenexa, Kansas, along with honorary daughter Diana Ericson (Jeff) of Forest, Wisconsin, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David, on Dec. 8, 2021; four brothers, Bill, John, Robert, and Carl Bergmann, and four sisters, Edna Mishler, Marguerite George, Bertha Maffei, and Helen O’Toole.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Walnut with Fr. Theodore Khin officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Patrick Cemetery at Walnut. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the church. The family will receive friends in the parish hall following the rosary.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Kansans for Life or the Knights of Columbus St. Paul/Erie Council. These may be left at the church or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
