Melva Lorene Wilbert

Melva Lorene Wilbert, 82, of Pittsburg, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Via Christi Village.

She was born February 2, 1942, in Brownington, Missouri, the daughter of Clyde Munroe and Opal Marie (Houk) Beasley. She attended Pittsburg schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1960.

On September 10, 1966, she was united in marriage to Ronald Wilbert at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Ron preceded her in death on October 11, 2022.

Melva worked for many years at Pittsburg State University as an Administrative Secretary in the HPER Department in the Weede Building. She also could be found working with Ron at MoKan Dragway running the concession stand or taking tickets.

She held membership at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Altar Society. She was a member of her bridge club for over 40 years. She was an active volunteer as a Pink Lady at Via Christi Hospital and worked as a volunteer at St. Mary's Bargain Corner. She also held active membership with P.E.O.

Survivors include four children, Wendi Piccini (Randy) of Pittsburg, J. D. Wilbert of Pittsburg, Jill Whitworth (Charlie) of Burlington, KS, and Matt Wilbert (Leah) of Pittsburg; a brother, Bill Beasley of Wichita, KS; fourteen grandchildren, Randi Krier, V.J. Piccini, Dominic Piccini, Aubri Dellasega, Emery Wilbert, Weston Wilbert, Barrett Wilbert, Cooper Whitworth, Tucker Whitworth, Karlie Whitworth, Madilynn Maple, Layne Maple, Gillian Wilbert and Mathias Wilbert; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Benskin.

A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Labenz as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
