David Wayne O’Malley

David Wayne O’Malley, 68, of rural Pittsburg, passed away peacefully at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. David was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He always said his family was the most important thing in his life and his proudest legacy. He will forever be remembered as a gentle person, a giver and a helper, a hard worker, and an honest and kind man. David regularly shared his love for Jesus and his lessons with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing racquetball and golf in his younger years.

He was born August 4, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lois (Eidson) and Phil O'Malley. He graduated from St. Mary’s Colgan in 1973 where he lettered in football and tennis. He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1977 with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management.

On February 5, 1982, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Beverly Kay Maguire, in Joplin, Missouri.

David worked as a salesman for O’Malley Implement from 1980 until his retirement in 2018. Membership was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home; four sons, Christopher O’Malley, Matthew O’Malley (Lacy), Ryan O’Malley (Alexandria), and Andrew O’Malley all of Pittsburg; a daughter, Lori O’Malley of Pittsburg; two sisters, Teresa Fairchild (Paul) of Pittsburg, and Jennifer Stookey (Nick) of Arma, Kansas; and seven grandchildren, Avery, John, Lincoln, Presley, William, Dylan, and Finley.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois, and his grandparents, Robert and Iva Eidson and Harold and Anna Marie O’Malley.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Brenner Mortuary with Fr. Robert McElwee officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southeast Kansas Humane Society.
