James D. Norwood

James D. Norwood, 92, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away unexpectedly, on April 2, 2024, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO.

He was born on July 3, 1931, in Pittsburg, KS, the son of JR "Rocky" and Mary (Linthicum) Norwood.

After working as a film director and a clown in early television in Louisiana, after college at Miami University of Ohio, Jamie devoted over 40 years of his life to serving as a creative special education teacher for neurologically challenged students in New Jersey. He was deeply committed to his work and made a significant impact on the lives of many, even earning permission to teach his students to float in a pool, to keep them safe in the summer and later returning home to care for his aging parents.

In addition to his dedication to education, Jamie had a passion for physical fitness and enjoyed running the New Jersey boardwalk and biking throughout Pittsburg. He also contributed to the community theatre and was a talented artist. Jamie cherished the company of a dog, usually adopting a rescue.

Survivors include his niece Marne Bonomo and her husband Jerry of WI; great-nephews Mark Reineri of FL and Michael Bonomo of Mexico; great-nieces, Jennifer Goldstein of NC, Lesley (Reineri) Rousso of FL, Rene (Bonomo) Minvielle of VA, Natalie Bonomo of WI, and Nicole (Bonomo) Thennes of IL; and many great, great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Charlene Reineri, and brother-in-law Louis.

In accordance with Jamie's wishes, no services are planned. Instead, a memorial has been established in his honor to benefit St. Jude's Hospital or the S.E.K. Humane Society. Condolences may be left at our website www.bathnaylor.com.
