Local meat marketing workshop coming to Parsons

PARSONS, Kan. — The Local Foods Transdisciplinary Team at Kansas State University is hosting a series of local meat marketing workshops, including one next week in Parsons. 

“The Kansas Local Meat Marketing Workshops will help small scale meat, poultry, and egg producers capitalize on the growing demand for local food,” according to a promotional flyer for the workshop series. “Attend to learn key marketing strategies and best practices from the experts, including fellow producers.” 

The event in Parsons will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Southeast Research and Extension Center, 25092 Ness Rd. Besides the Parsons event, another workshop was held in Wichita on Feb. 3 and one is planned for Olathe this Friday, Feb. 24. Each workshop covers the same content and the cost is $20 per attendee. Lunch, prepared with local ingredients, will be provided, and the KDA’s Weights and Measures program will also offer free scale certification with paid registration. 

The Kansas Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program, KSU Global Food Systems Seed Grant, Walton’s, Frontier Farm Credit, Neosho County Farm Bureau, Sedgwick County Farm Bureau, Johnson County Farm Bureau, Kansas Farmers Union, Allen County Farm Bureau, Kansas Meat Processors Association, and the Kansas Rural Center are sponsors of these workshops.
