Richard Floyd Ewan, 81, of McCune, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Ascension Via Christi Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born on June 16, 1942, to Lester Wilbur and Dorothy (McClelland) Ewan in Walnut, Kansas. He grew up and attended school in the McCune area, graduating from McCune High School.
Richard was a farmer/rancher, who was employed at Born Farms from 1959 to the present. Working with the Born family so many years, Richard was a part of the family.
A lifelong sports lover, in his younger years, Richard played fastpitch softball. He enjoyed watching baseball, football, and basketball, and attended the Born children's sporting events through the years. In his spare time, he liked to hunt, fish, and play Pitch. Richard also enjoyed gardening and sharing the extra produce with friends and neighbors.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul where he was an usher.
On June 1, 1960, Richard married Kathleen Davied. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2006.
Survivors include one daughter, Melinda Kay Ewan, of McCune, Kansas; Scott Born, who was like a son, and his wife Brooke, and their children, Braven (Catie), Rigby, Brahm, and Ranson; three brothers, James Leonard "Jim" Ewan (Judy) of Parsons, Kansas; William Lester "Bill" Ewan (Kathy) of Diamond Missouri; and Robert "Merle" Ewan (Beth) of St. Paul, Kansas; two sisters, Mary Ellen "Sally" Gress, of Florence, Kentucky, and Marilyn Irene Willis of Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; four brothers, Leroy "Bud" Ewan, Raymond Earl "Ray" Ewan, Milton Donald Ewan, and Charles "Chuck" Ewan; and three sisters, Francis Marie Payton, Wanda Juanita Madl, and Patricia Ann Moore.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will immediately follow at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Greenbush. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
